On July 17, 2010 Pastor Rigo spoke a word about the miracles in John and how Jesus feed 5,000 with two loaves of bread and five fish. On July 24, 2010 New Life had their homeless outreach in Downtown Miami. Walking into the church neither one of us had any idea what to expect. I went to Publix and decided to buy a whole bunch of chips and snacks, then when I walked in church all the bags were already filled with chips and snacks. I thought to myself “Ok I’m sure some bags will need it, we just might have a lot left over”. On the counter was a whole bunch of bread that the church next door had donated, plus a block of cheese and one of the ladies just happened to have peanut butter and jelly in her car, so needless to say we started making sandwiches. As people arrived their faces were suprised to see such a small group, because we normally have a big group that goes. In the end we only ended up with 8 people, but we quickly learned that’s all God needed.

By the time we finished the sandwiches we had filled all the bags with a sandwich and chips and it was an exact amount with how much cheese and peanut butter and jelly totalling about 130 bags. To our surprise we still managed to have bread left over. God is just so perfect and awesome in every way… we were now convicted and mentally ready to “hit the streets”.

When we arrived to downtown, we were shocked to see most of the homeless on the street, normally we have to walk around and let them know we have food. It’s like they knew we were coming. They quickly started to crowd the car eager to eat. Rigo Sr. spoke a word that was in his heart about his testimony. He kept it brief, but very real and a handful of people repeated the sinner’s prayer and accepted Christ… AMEN!!! The crowd was anxious and we tried to keep them under control and before we could blink the food was gone. Two minutes later we had a young gentleman named Alvin that came to get food, but we were out. He then asked for prayer and we laid hands on him and the next thing you know another car with food came. Then came Milagro running to us in tears, who had been there since Wednesday. She had heard that we come from time to time and wanted us to pray, because she didn’t want to lose hope in God. We were all touched…

The Lord honored our prayer and saw our eager hearts to bless with what we could that day. With the “feeding of the five thousand” so fresh in our minds Jesus reminded us His power and mercy is the same yesterday as it is today.

^14-17But he went ahead and directed his disciples, “Sit them down in groups of about fifty.” They did what he said, and soon had everyone seated. He took the five loaves and two fish, lifted his face to heaven in prayer, blessed, broke, and gave the bread and fish to the disciples to hand out to the crowd. After the people had all eaten their fill, twelve baskets of leftovers were gathered up.
