Devo vs Devotion~

A few months ago I was given a new devotional book that had me hooked.  I loved the writing & every time I would read it, I would feel God speak to me.  I began reading it daily, but before I realized it my actual Bible reading was diminishing.  I was becoming more interested in hearing God speak through this human writer, than through the Holy Spirit by the power of His Word.  After a week or so, I realized something was missing.  I felt far from God.  Even though I was being faithful with my new little devotional book, and even though it had Bible verses, it was not the same as God’s Word.  If God thought we could get by in this world with devotionals, why create His perfect Word?  I also realized that though some devo’s are great, there is nothing like getting a personal revelation from God.  Reading others’ insight, commentaries & revelations are powerful & definitely inspire, encourage & minister, but the Word of God is irreplaceable.   Nothing comes close to it! “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;” Timothy 3.16
